"I have loved football as an almost mythic game since I was in the fourth grade. To me, the game wasn't even grounded in reality. The uniform turned you into a warrior. Being on a team, the mythology of physical combat, the struggle against the elements, the narrative of the game..." ~ Steve Sabol (NFL Films)

Week 1 of LFA 2024- A Rooster's True Grit

So, as an amateur sports columnist here in the world of citizen sports journalism I am going to start off with this declaration, and that is, just like the first week of the LFA, this first write up about the week that was in the world of the LFA, is going to likely be the one where I look back and say to myself, "Dude, you have a lot to learn." Which anyone who decides to jump into and provide some thoughts on a new league should immediately think.  Learning a new league in a foreign language is like learning to drive all over again on the left hand side of the road, because even though the game is the same, the sights, sounds, names and places are all different. So for week one, I am going to let the highlights speak for themselves and give you my thoughts on how the game was broadcast and who, in my opinion, was the MVP for the week. I would love to know your thoughts, so please leave a note at the end of this article...

Symbiosis~ When Sports Meets Adolescence

"I've been very lucky in the freedom that I've been given. Every artist needs two types of freedom: You need the freedom to - the freedom to come up with an idea or treatment - and then you need the other half of the freedom, and that's freedom from - somebody saying, 'This is great. This is how I want you to do it.'"

¡Viva el LFA!

In learning about a new league, especially one whose native language you cannot speak, it's best to focus in on what is obviously right in front of you visually and aesthetically, but also simply soak in the moment and just watch, listen, and learn.  Such was the case of the LFA Gala that was shown on YouTube this morning here in Japan, as well as in the uniform reveals now popping up on social media.  In two hours, in addition to the time spent watching on Facebook and reading the posts (Facebook does a great job with Spanish translation, though sadly none was provided on YouTube for the Gala),  I learned, even without subtitles, the faces and names to look out for this season, and to be honest, I am even more excited than ever for kickoff.
